Lowland
Lowland
malts are defined as those coming from the southern
half of Scotland - that is, from south of the highland
line. In terms of their taste, the Lowland
malts are perhaps a good first stepping stone into
the wider world of malt whiskies for the drinker
who wants to graduate from blends: relatively unassertive
in character, they are generally soft and light,
with a gently sweetness which ensures them many
fans among more experienced palates. Much
of the produce of the Lowland malt distilleries
is used in blends.
