Island
The final
Highland sub group is that of Island whiskies.
As might be expected when these are viewed on a
map, the classification is not so much based on
characteristics as convenience - this is a suitable
sub group in which to deal with the remaining whiskies
which do not fit in any other.
At
present the island concerned are Arran, Jura, Mull
and Skye in the west, and Orkney in the north.
(it does not of course include Islay, whose distinctive
style merits a category of its own)
Once again, generalisations are difficult to make, with characters
ranging from reasonable dry to full, sweet and malty.
